Leda Luss Luyken

Leda Luss Luyken, née Valata, is a Greek | American conceptual artist who lives and works in Germany.

Her oeuvre falls into three larger bodies of work, Torsi and Heads, RiceArt and :ModulArt. Examples of the former two are shown below and :ModulArt is presented and explained in a special section of this site.

RiceArt

“In my view RiceArt is Luss Luyken’s best form of art, because  it is full of motion in its composition and free in its gesture”
Otto Hübner | gallery owner and curator | ACA Gallery | Munich

RiceArt is multimedia work on transparent rice paper. Using this medium, Leda Luss Luyken has produced the following series of paintings:

+ The Aphrodite Series (2001);
+ The Nike Series (2003);
+ The Garden of Eden Series (2004);
+ The E-motions Series (2005).

Each of these consists of between 20 and 30 works, mostly on Indian or Chinese rice paper and in some cases using a combination of both. Many of the themes are drawn from ancient Mythology and Luss Luyken transposes their essence into modernity.

“Leda Luss Luyken’s art is two-sided and multi-facetted … she depicts Dionysian and Apollonian elements … order and chaos — Luyken’s art is worthy of museums”
Walter-Karl Walde | curator of modern art | Zurich
